Kouvola Today

Kouvola is a city with over 450 lakes and over 7,500 summer cottages. Kouvola is the largest garrison city, and one of the largest provincial cities in Finland. Anjalankoski, Elimäki, Jaala, Kouvola, Kuusankoski and Valkeala merged to form the new City of Kouvola on 1.1.2009 and Kouvola became the 10th biggest city in Finland. Kouvola has a population of 88,500 and a total area of 2,800 km2. From an international point of view, Kouvola is a gateway to the east for the European Union. The distance to St. Petersburg and Russia is less than 300 km and two trains depart for St. Petersburg every day. Kouvola is located in Southern Finland, only 136 kilometres and 90 minutes away from the Capital Region by train or car.
