Sense of architecture in Ankkapurha
Designed by Alvar Aalto in the 1930s for the chief engineer of the Anjala paper mill, Mäntylä opens its doors to guests and offers the opportunity to taste tea.
How does the architecture feel?
In the morning, the house opens its doors to everyone: you can walk from room to room, admire the light of the building and sense the interior details that make Mäntylä a unique entity.
The interior of the villa-like hillside house Mäntylä uses Artek furniture and lighting. Aalto’s buildings emphasize thoughtful spatial design, combinations of white and muted tones, natural materials, soft light and textures that appeal to the sense of touch.
The house can accommodate 30 guests at a time, so you may have to wait your turn. Mäntylä is located on a beautiful pine slope between two other engineering houses designed by Aalto, so you can also explore the architectural details and garden in the courtyard.
Free admission to the open doors from 10 am to 1 pm
Tea & architecture
In the afternoon, the architectural experience deepens over tea. Tea tasting takes you on a journey of the senses and the mind calms down over a cup of tea. Guided by an expert, you will taste different types of tea and hear about the fascinating history of tea. At the same time, you will have the opportunity to experience what kind of experience tea and architecture create together.
