Judge Nurmio

Judge Nurmio  is not only one of the most important songwriters and influencers in Finnish rock music, but also one of the most innovative performers.

During his career, which began in 1979, Judge Nurmio has released 19 studio albums, two of which have sold gold. The list of publications, celebrated concerts and recognitions that critics have called classics is long – let’s mention the Eino Leino Literature Prize awarded to Nurmio, the only rock musician.

Known for his hard-hitting band compositions, Judge Nurmio also performs solo. The situation, in which the music maker meets his audience alone, seems to be appealing to Nurmio in its challenge. A specially constructed box guitar, a stand that doubles as a bass drum, the power of the music and the charisma of the Judge character are enough.

The character of Judge Nurmio is full of paradoxes: a highly literate tavern musician, a perfectionist and a bohemian, a street kid from Kallio who studied to be a lawyer, and a master of the slang of the city. Judge may be a stern Dumari, but words of comfort and love also have a place in his songbooks.

According to Judge Nurmio, songs can be worn in different ways. If the essence of the song is in order, the new arrangement offers a different perspective to enjoy, a breath of fresh air. The same principle has carried Judge Nurmio’s entire career: arrangements, genres, names and lineups have been played with, the jackets have changed countless times, but these are not random changes, but the desire of the music maker to renew himself and challenge himself by taking considered risks.
