What does architecture feel like?
Mäntylä, designed by Alvar Aalto for the chief engineer of the Anjala paper mill in the 1930s, offers the opportunity to explore the architecture and interior of the villa-like hillside house. The interior uses Artek furniture and lighting. Aalto’s buildings emphasize thoughtful spatial planning, combinations of white and muted tones, natural materials, soft light and textures that appeal to the senses.
On a guided walking tour, you can explore the history and architecture of the residential area designed by Alvar Aalto, guided by Kouvola tourist guides.
The daily musical performance in Mäntylä will be performed by Nella Roivas, accordion & Elsa Viljamaa, piano, from the Pohjois-Kymi Music Institute.
The house can accommodate 30 guests at a time, so you may have to wait for your turn. Mäntylä is located on a beautiful pine slope between two other engineering houses designed by Aalto, so you can also explore the architectural details and garden in the courtyard.
The event is organized by Aalto Inkeroinen ry in collaboration with Stora Enso Anjalankoski factories, Pohjois-Kymi music school and Kouvola tourist guides ry.
