The conquest of the rapids for the use of the forest industry at the end of the 19th century also brought a paper mill to Voikkaa. A community was created around the mill, which grew into the region’s busiest shopping center. There were shops, kiosks, canteens, cafes and accommodation. Entertainment was provided by theater performances, cinemas, concerts and dances.

 Eventually, the village life quieted down and the shops disappeared. Life flows through the streets and alleys of historic Voikkaa, like the swirling Kymijoki River in its bed.

Voikkaa was chosen as the most idyllic village of the year in 2023 in a survey by Iltalehti!

Adults eur 10.00, children under 15 years of age accompanied by an adult free of charge. Payment in cash to the guide. It is possible with just one participant.
