KYMI SINFONIETTA
HENRIIKKA TEERIKANGAS, conductor
MARIKA HÖLTTÄ, soprano
This festive and uplifting Independence Day concert presents Finnish tunes from different decades, ranging from music created before independence to the latest musical art. Music composed before independence is represented in the program by Jean Sibelius’ music for the playPelleas and Melisande, Armas Järnefelt’sPrelude, and Toivo Kuula’s songs composed right on the threshold of independence, which are interpreted by the soprano Marika Hölttä, originally from Kouvola. In addition to Kuula’s songs, he will also perform brand new music from Uljas Pulkkis’Raatteentieopera. Kymenlaakso music is represented in the concert by Uuno Klami’s Nummisuutarit-overture and Eero Kesti’s Fantasia for orchestra, also known as Kevät. Ida Moberg’s Auringonnousun has been arranged for a smaller orchestra by Luukas Hiltunen, a composer and arranger from Kouvola.
