Irina- Acoustic evening
Irina’s most beloved hits acoustic tour starts in September!
Irina, who has already become one of Finland’s leading artists with her debut album in 2004, has released nine studio albums in her career spanning over two decades, including two Emma-winning Vahva and platinum-selling Älä riko kaavaa and Liiba laaba.
Now Irina is releasing new versions of her well-known songs together with accordionist Niko Kumpuvaara and multi-instrumentalist Joakim Berghall. The Acoustic Night EP, which will be released on Friday, March 20, will be followed by a tour of the same name starting in September.
The Lyrics in a New Light tour will only be done once!
The reduced instrumentation puts the lyrics and interpretation of the songs at the center.
– The new versions bring out the lyrics in a different way. For example, I Want to Be Alone feels completely different in this version. The original may have more rage. When the approach is reduced, the angle changes and the meanings deepen. This enriches my own experience of these songs, Irina describes.
The tour’s repertoire focuses on hit songs, but there will also be gems that have been performed less frequently.
– I’m looking forward to new kinds of encounters with the audience, maybe there will also be listeners who have not been to my gigs before. I certainly hope to see a lot of familiar faces. The atmosphere is expectant, hopeful and a little tense. This will only be done once, Irina says.
An intimate and surprising ensemble!
Accordion artist Niko Kumpuvaara sees the ensemble bringing new tones to Irina’s music.
– Irina has a huge number of great pop and rock songs. With a small lineup and a concert hall environment, the whole thing becomes intimate and certainly in some way surprising to the fans. Irina is an incredibly good singer and can perform in any musical environment, says Kumpuvaara.
Joakim Berghäll says that he approached the arrangement work intuitively.
– I don’t think about references. I listen to the text and think about how to make it sing and speak as strongly as possible. The lineup is so different from Irina’s albums that the atmosphere inevitably changes. A small band allows every evening to be different – we can live in the moment and improvise, says Berghäll.
