Aalto weekend in Kouvola

The Aalto weekend in Kouvola is a side event of the Sunila Aalto Homes 2025 event on the last weekend of August, 30-31 August 2025.

Did you know that there are 33 buildings or parts of buildings designed by Aalto in Kouvola? Kymenlaakso can be called the Alvar Aalto region of Finland, as Kymenlaakso has the most buildings designed by Aalto!

The Aalto weekend will take place in three Aalto locations in Kouvola:

1. Ankkapurha Cultural Park, Inkeroinen Tehtaanmäki: Ankkapurha Aalto Homes Guided Walking Tour.

The Kouvola Tourist Guides walking tour introduces you to the history and architecture of the residential area designed by Alvar Aalto. The tour takes you inside two villa-like hillside houses, one of which is permanently used as a residence and the other as a representative home.

2. At Tehtaanmäki School: Open doors at Tehtaanmäki School

Come and explore the architectural gem completed in 1939 – on your own or with a guided tour led by Aalto Inkeroinen ry. The building will be for sale after the school’s use ends. The café is open on the school premises.

3. In Sippola: Design and architecture in Sippola

Visit the rarely open former medical building in Sippola, designed by Aalto Architects. It is possible to admire and buy high-quality Nordic  design, including products by Alvar Aalto, Paavo Tynell, Ilmari Tapiovaara and Lisa Johansson Pape.
