Old Mill of Jokela

Welcome to The Old Mill of Jokela!

The mill museum lies by the idyllic shores of the rapids of Käyräjoki River. The area also hosts Kriikunalehto Park with a picnic area and a natural trail Liito-oravan kierros (The Flying Squirrel Trail) on the premises of an old fish farm. The mill was built in 1845, and it operated as a mill until 1956.

The museum is open weekly during the summer season, during events, and by request. The museum hosts annually changing exhibitions with free admission. The nature trail, park, picnic area, playground merry-go-around, and barbecue and free for public use. The area also has a rare horizontal glacial pothole. The area connects directly to Lake Käyrälampi and Valkeala nature and exercise trail networks.

The Lautaro beach maintained by the Jokela Village Association is about 1 kilometre away. There is a beautiful, but challenging nature trail along the shore from the mill to the beach.

Other attraction in the area include the diverse river valley nature, the old village centre of Jokela, The Finnish Shop Museum, Church of Valkeala, the village cemetery among its memorials, Valkeala House, Valkeala community centre, and Gustav III’s rock (Battle of Valkeala, 1790).
