The encounter between a young music student and a history student starts a journey into the past, when a great-grandmother’s poetry book leads them to explore the stages of their families in Kotka and Kuusankoski.
The story transports the viewer to local history, human destinies and love at a time when events in Finland and Kymenlaakso shaped entire families.
Onnenvirta is Kymenlaakso’s own masterpiece, in which local history comes to life through music, song, image projections and staged implementation.
The work combines a strong story, visual expression and live music into an easy-to-follow whole.
Several soloists and a choir will be heard on stage, and the performance will be performed in the Kuusankoski Hall concert hall with the power of projections, costumes, lights and live music. Top-level soloists and local performers are included.
The work is a new premiere that draws on the history, roots and stories of people in Kymenlaakso – an understandable and touching experience even for viewers who are not already familiar with opera.
The work is also suitable for first-time viewers – a clear plot and visual implementation.
