KAARNA | Photography exhibition

KAARNA is a multi-layered photography exhibition where a photograph transforms into a costume, a material and a new form.

Photographer Anu Hedborg’s photographs made from trees and layers of nature, and the costumes designed and created by fashion designer Mert Otsamo, together form a whole where the photograph takes on new shapes and layers. In the costumes designed by Otsamo, Hedborg’s photographs continue as printed fabrics, bringing physicality and a new layer to the works.

In the exhibition, photography lives on different surfaces and materials. Translucent fabrics and light form a whole in the middle of which the viewer can walk and make their own observations.

Wooden surfaces, layers and traces resemble something familiar. The layers left by time and memories are visible in both nature and people.

KAARNA is built on details, layers and stopping. It invites you to look at trees up close, as if from the inside.

The exhibition opens on Sunday 7 June 2026 on the 2nd floor of the Veturi Shopping Centre in Kouvola. You are warmly welcome to experience the atmosphere of the exhibition, walk among the works and meet the artists at the exhibition.

Anu Hedborg and Mert Otsamo will be at the opening on 7 June 2026 from 13:00 to 15:00 to talk about the works in the exhibition, the stories of the trees and the design and implementation of the costumes.
