Mikko Sakala
Art Center Antares will exhibit paintings and photographs by Mikko Sakala in June.
The new paintings on display are the beginning of the Houses painting series. The starting point for the works in the series has been the basic surface of the painting and its form, which can also be perceived as a house. The form of the works acts as a structural and narrative element. The painting simultaneously builds and breaks the structure of form and space. This creates the essential tension and dramaturgy of the works. The works are oil and tempera paintings, measuring approx. 240 x 190 cm.
The columned hall of the Art Center Antares exhibition space will display a collection of works that combine the means of expression of painting and photography, produced by Sakala in collaboration with photographer Manja Riihelä between 2017 and 2023. When constructing the works, Sakala did not paint a picture of a person, but a concrete person. By painting, masking and building with different materials, a whole was created in the painting event, which was photographed by photographer Manja Riihelä. The final works are framed pigment prints.
